Student Complaint and SARA Complaint Procedures

 Livingstone College Student Complaint Process

Policy/Procedure for Student Complaints

Livingstone College is committed to a policy of fair treatment of its students in their relationships with fellow students, faculty, staff, and administrators. Students are encouraged to seek an informal resolution of the matter directly with the faculty or individual or individuals involved when possible.

For matters where a resolution is not feasible, a Student Complaint Form can be completed and filed with the Office of the Vice President of Student Affairs, located in Suite 332 of the Walls Center, 800 W. Thomas Drive.

Students may obtain a complaint form from the Office of the Vice President of Student Affairs, the Office of Academic Affairs, the Office of the Dean of Students, the Office of Residence Life and Housing, and all residence halls and apartments. The completed form is to be filed in the Office of the Vice President of Student Affairs.

The complaint will be logged, assigned a number, and forwarded to the Vice President of the area associated with the complaint. The appropriate Vice President will be responsible for obtaining a response, which will then be forwarded to the student. Response dates, actions taken, and the name of the responding staff member will be recorded.

SARA Student Complaint Process

The State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (SARA) provide consumer protections for students participating in interstate distance education. SARA complaint procedures apply to complaints involving distance education courses, activities, and operations offered by a SARA-participating institution to students located in another SARA member state.

Students must first attempt to resolve their complaint through Livingstone College’s established student complaint procedures. If the complaint is not resolved at the institutional level and falls within the scope of SARA, the student may file a complaint with the SARA State Portal Entity for North Carolina, which is Livingstone College’s home state.

The North Carolina SARA State Portal Entity is responsible for reviewing and resolving eligible complaints that are not resolved through the institution’s internal process. SARA complaints may include allegations involving dishonest or fraudulent activity, false or misleading information, or violations of SARA policies related to interstate distance education.

Complaints involving grades, student conduct violations, or matters that do not fall within the scope of SARA remain subject to Livingstone College’s established policies and procedures.
