The library schedules its hours around the academic schedule of the College.
Hours are subject to change during semester breaks and College holidays.
Monday – Thursday: 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.
Friday: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Saturday: 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Sunday: 3:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.
Academic Reserves: The Reserve collection consists of volumes from the general book collection reserved by faculty members in the library. These books are required readings. Professors may place personal copies and articles on reserve to ensure that students have sufficient reading materials for class. Also, some professors place course textbooks on reserve. The Library processes requests in compliance with U.S. Copyright Laws.
Bibliographic Instruction: The Andrew Carnegie Library offers bibliographic instruction in many subjects including the use of print and electronic resources. In collaboration with the library staff, faculty can make arrangements for classes to come to the library for specialized instruction. Individuals may request instruction as well. General workshops/seminars on various information literacy subjects are offered periodically.
Circulation: Books and materials are circulated by the Andrew Carnegie Library. A Livingstone College ID card is required to check materials from the library. Faculty, staff, students, and Friends of the Library have a loan period of two weeks for most materials.
Computer Lab: The Andrew Carnegie Library has computer lab services available for students and assists faculty and staff as needed. There are computer stations dedicated to the online public access catalog (OPAC).
Faxing and Laminating: A fax machine and laminating machine are available on the first floor of the library. Faxing and laminating are free of charge to all students, staff and faculty. Laminating must be requested at least 24 hours in advance.
Interlibrary Loan: Books and materials needed by faculty, staff, and students that are not owned by Andrew Carnegie Library may be borrowed from other libraries through this service. Although most items can be obtained free, sometimes libraries will charge a fee. The requestor is responsible for paying all related costs for ILL. The library processes requests in compliance with U.S. Copyright Laws.
Laptop Checkout: The Andrew Carnegie Library has laptops available for checkout at the Circulation Desk. Laptops are checked out at the Circulation Desk and must be returned to an Andrew Carnegie library staff person at the Circulation Desk. You must have a valid Livingstone College ID with you in order to check out a laptop.
Online Resources: In addition to the OPAC, the Andrew Carnegie Library subscribes to several online resources for use by faculty, staff, and students. Some resources include NCLive and Accessible Archives, Inc.
Periodicals: The library subscribes to more than 100 periodicals. Most of these periodicals also have online resources available to patrons. A list is available at the Circulation Desk.
Photocopying and Printing: There is a photocopier available on the first floor of the library. The cost per page is $.10. Students are allowed to print from the computer lab at no additional cost.
Reference Services: The Reference Collection is located on the first floor in the Main Reading Room of the library. Dictionaries, encyclopedias, almanacs, atlases, and indexes are part of the collection. Library staff is available to assist students with research projects, answer reference questions, and provide additional services as needed
